Beaufort County Historical Resources Consortium

If there’s something we all have, it’s hidden collections – items and materials we know we have, but for which the wider world knows nothing about because the materials aren’t “registered” or “listed” in an easily accessed database.  About 7 years ago, Bluffton Historical Preservation Society, Historic Beaufort Foundation, Penn Center and the Beaufort District Collection submitted an application for one of these grants to catalog and digitize our respective Reconstruction Era holdings.  We were unsuccessful – mostly on account of our individual progress towards inventorying our respective holdings and organizing the collections for access.

  • Have you made progress getting intellectual control over your organization’s historic materials?
  • Does your organization have some nationally significant materials that complement and supplement the materials at another local organization here?
  • Is there some topic or subject that together we can make a case for national significance across 3 or more of our institutions?
